Privacy · What I keep

Privacy, in plain words.

This site keeps very little. Here is all of it.

Messages you send

When you send a postcard from this page, or write back to a letter, I keep the message, your name if you gave one, and your email address, so I can read it and reply. You get one email back saying it arrived, and that’s all: I don’t add you to anything because you wrote.

The letters by email

If you subscribe, I keep your email address and when you confirmed it. You first get a message asking you to confirm, and nothing is sent until you do. Once you confirm, you get one welcome email, and after that only letters. Every letter has an unsubscribe link, and using it stops the emails straight away.

The emails are sent through Mailgun.

Anti-spam

The forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from bots, usually without asking you anything. When it is switched on, your browser talks to Cloudflare while the page is open, under Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Counting visits

I use Google Analytics to see which pages people read and how they found the site. It sets cookies (their names start with _ga) so it can tell a returning visitor from a new one, and Google doesn’t store the IP address it sees. Google signals is switched off, so visits aren’t tied to anyone’s Google account, and visit-level data is deleted after 14 months. Your browser’s tracking protection or Google’s opt-out add-on will block it.

Cookies and tracking

There are no advertising cookies. Apart from Google Analytics, the only things the page remembers in your browser are whether you picked light or dark mode, and whether you turned animations off.

Asking me to delete something

Write to me from the contact form and I’ll delete what I’m keeping about you.
